Landscape Project 2020-2023 – an independent podiatric career initiative

Following the project based upon Inspiring Careers, the author could see how much the landscape was changing in the field of foot health and that podiatry had not established itself sufficiently to close the shortage in recruitment.

Seventy students, staff and qualified members of the profession provided interviews from the UK representing the four union nations. The core interviews were undertaken largely during the Covid recession 2020-21 by video link.

The author published an account of the wider podiatry opportunities in two career books produced by Busypencilcase Communication (BPCC), an independent publishing house owned by the author (DT) and sponsored in part by Firefly Orthoses and endorsed by The University of Southampton, to offer career teachers and local libraries a new resource.

As a result of the material collected, a wider podiatry narrative was possible based upon the interviews and opinions, recorded and demonstrating that the landscape of podiatry has moved in different directions since the seventies.

The paper presented in The Podiatrist is an original paper based around the landscape project with considerable support and advice from Mr R B Graham, Dr A Borthwick and Dr T E Kilmartin.
