Who and What is Busypencilcase?

Busypencilcase Communications (BPCC) emerged in 2015, initially formed as a limited company until 2019, when it became a sole trader publishing blogs, articles, books, and promotions, predominantly for foot health. Run by David R Tollafield (Director-owner), this site—ConsultingFootPain.co.uk—merged with BPCC after it was created a year earlier. The name originated from a book David wrote for his grandchildren around the content of a pencil case.

BPCC works with other authors across a broad spectrum and organisations like OSGO, The Institute of Podiatrists, and the Royal College of Podiatry to support their in-house journals. BPCC is independent and derives income from publications primarily based on the AMAZON platform.

To contact BPCC, our email address is busypencilcasecfp@gmail.com

ConsultingFootPain (CFP)

The site and content were established in 2014 as part of David Tollafield’s clinical practice in the West Midlands. Patient information was uploaded for easy access, mainly to explain conditions and provide pre-surgical information. In 2018, upon retiring from the clinical field, the website changed. Since this date, the site has continued to deliver regular articles and information disseminated via social media. CFP is owned wholly by BPCC.

Free Information & Publishing

All information provided on this site is not-for-profit. There is no sale of products or funnelling toward a practice. The site is non-partisan, although links may have adverts outside CFP’s control. Many professional authors have written for CFP, and these are always welcome at no charge or payment.

Most articles are not peer-reviewed outside our internal editorial system, but all contributions are accessible to the author.

Over the years, patients and laypeople have contacted CFP for opinions and answers to foot health concerns. Again, responses are given freely and objectively wherever the CFP can assist. Because CFP covers overseas and the UK, we receive queries from mainly the USA and the UK and try to answer all within 48 hours.

CFP has received over one million views from over 270 articles, averaging over 3000 views over a week.

In 2023, it was decided to expand from foot health, widening the site’s remit, and many of the articles produced have merged into other areas of health. David wrote about shoulder pain and torn ligaments, and Carrie wrote about incontinence after pregnancy. We featured many articles during the COVID pandemic, including a highly moving account of Trevor Prior’s story of resuscitating patients. The ethos behind CFP is to create resources for CLINICAL ARTICLES and for the lay-reader section, known as FOOTLOCKER, to be seen separately.

In 2024, we created BOOKSHELF, which covers publishing and books of interest. BPCC is also a publishing house for books. Current books and reviews are included.  An author site is also available for David Tollafield. Books are written around blogs, articles, social media comments, and general news.

This site endeavours to remain non-partisan or biased and is unaffiliated to any health organisation and remains independent in publishing and holding its views.

Authors & Organisations

In 2025, a joint book with author Dr Tim Kilmartin will be released to update the highly successful Bunion/Hallux Valgus First Edition.

In 2023 and 2024, collaboration with the Institute of Podiatrists brought out commissioned books on Adult Foot Problems and course books for Foot Health Practitioners, the latter due in 2025.

The course for Foot Health Practitioners

A Study Guide for Foot Health Professionals acts as a companion to other resources to support the course.  The testimonial below relates to work we have performed for the Institute of Podiatrists.

“Based on David’s profound history of excellence in podiatric medicine and professional medical writing, The Institute of Podiatrists and College of Foot Health approached David to revise their established Foot Health Practitioner training course. Mapping his work against Health Education England’s (HEE) Standards for the Foot Health Workforce, the course has been re-worked in 2 course documents – Theory and Practical. The precision and speed at which David has worked, engaging with various stakeholders and our Education Faculty has been astonishing. It has been our immense pleasure to have worked with David, delivering what has to be, the highest quality training documents in the foot health training industry.”  The Institute of Podiatrists. August 2024

Articles are often written on CFP first and then published elsewhere. In 2024, BPCC published two articles based on research, one on instrument sterilisation (Institute) and the other on expanding podiatric practice (Royal College).

Articles written on CFP are considered for publication, and currently, 20% of the material has been committed to publication in eBook, paperback and hardback formats. These can be accessed on the Author’s website, where you will find an introductory video.

The site covers current nonfiction and guidebooks based on readers’ correspondence. Both CFP and David Tollafield’s author sites have a contact section. To separate fictional books, David uses and publishes under his pen name, R.C. Blyth, a name adopted from his grandfather, a deceased First World War soldier from London at 5′ 1″. He was allocated to the Bantam regiment .
